It has a large amount of more complex options which make the menus a bit cluttered and sometimes some less-used features are difficult to find. This makes it easy to drag and drop files and directories, unlike some other software that show only one side at a time. It features both the folder structure and contents of a chosen folder on the computer, and also the folder structures and contents of a chosen folder on the server. For a while I was thinking that SCP connections are not supported, but apparently they can be used as well (some servers demand those). The user information has been easy to move from one computer to another when changing hardware, and not one single time have I had any issues. I have used Filezilla for more than 10 years now, and have no need to switch. This isn't very often I need to do this, so it's not a total deal breaker. There needs to be a built-in dark theme! Another thing is I wish a large directory of files from my PC would upload quicker to a given web server - I've encountered this specifically when trying to install CMS platforms directly to the root of the site/server. One being the interface can be a bit overwhelming with the screen being divided into 4 panels consisting of folders, files, and the website files. The program runs smooth, transfers my files as expected, and I've never had any issues trying to connect to any external FTP or SFTP servers - so that's great! CONSĭespite all that FileZilla has to offer it does suffer in a few ways. If you want to know the status of your file transfers there's a little tab menu at the bottom displaying failed and successful transfers - especially important for when uploading multiple files at once. Furthermore, their is the "Site Manager" which is super useful, allowing you to create a directory of all of your websites and keep the login information for each in one place. Feature-wise, the "Quickconnect" feature is incredible, it allows you to quickly connect to previously logged in servers without having to type in any login information! This saves so much time. PROSįilezilla is great! The fact that it's available on all operating systems is fantastic! I've used on Windows and Linux without issues, it functions the same. The interface is a bit intimidating but if you can look past that and focus on the file transferring and getting the job done than it's all good! FTP software isn't meant to be pretty anyways, it's about functionality and it does just that. Overall, after trying several alternatives I find myself coming back to FIleZilla. Sometimes this is not suitable for massive data transfer, since it takes a lot of time. This means that I can receive and upload a dedicated 40Mbps bandwidth connection. CONSįileZilla's least able to help in is its data transmission speeds. I also love that the search file on Filezilla is one thousand thousand times faster. This program must be installed on any machine (and I have 3). I could truly remove files and directories permanently with Filezilla. I could not even remove the files by being banned. The second wonderful thing about Filezilla and the deletion of files is that: I recently was banned from accessing my OneDrive, which lets you to maintain a local cloud file shortcut. I may really erase it from the local file page of the window from the whole device. On my Mac, I can actually delete the file and then go to the garbage basket, without having to send it to the trash bin. I also want to be able to delete files that I wouldn't be able to delete permanently through Filezilla. I like to use it not only to handle FTP transactions but I can really see hidden files on my machines without going to my settings or input a certain key combination. I found more practical usages than the company could realize for this software. It has been intended to be used to move files via FTP or SFTP, for example, for web hosting. PROSįilezilla's ability to be a full-featured file management program appeals to me. It is quite popular since it is free of charge. Very handy if your file has been updated and you need to sync it with the cloud or a distant server in real-time. This file transfer program is suggested for all users for moving data from one location to another, whether it's your local computer or a remote server. If there is any other job going on at the same time, I may adjust the transfer speed limitations to my satisfaction. The fast connect bar on the top of the FileZilla program eliminates the trouble of remembering and inputting the password every time. I'm also capable of maintaining appropriate synchronization between the two platforms. I can now handle projects on both my local PC and the distant server with ease.
